Project Description
After site analysis and observations, we found that there is main 3 components that form the site, users & stakeholder categories (fisherman, Authority, workers, visitors), the green feature and the historical background. and we found that every component has interests and concerns that conflict with the needs of the other components, so the biggest challenge was to link the needs of these groups and increase their interaction with each other. The main structure was the main link between the interests of all these groups, which was the Fish Market, this market is designed to encourage fishermen, provide investment and job opportunities for workers, and be an important attraction for visitors as the area lacks this activity, It also meets the municipality’s desire to return land revenues and achieve a better economy and tourism. The project also includes an urban design and enhancement for the site in overalls, such as: Designing a new museum close to the castle and the revolution flagpole which provides the history of the place and the city. Major rehabilitation for the cafés tent on the beach and shift their place to create a new public beach for visitors. Create new gathering areas and bazaars that include diverse activities and stories. The green features have the biggest share in the development, we try to preserve, improve, and increase it with increasing visitor interaction with it. Local materials similar to Aqaba Castle were used as a starting point for the principle of preserving and developing Aqaba’s heritage, so Aqaba stone was used in the project. The Goals Of The Project: – Helping fishermen gain a career while providing new job opportunities. – Emphasizing the concept of food security and increasing production and local dependence. – Providing a built environment that helps commercial establishments reduce their prices and operating costs. – Creating new marine activities that attract tourists and visitors. – Creating interactive social spaces. – Providing nightly events that attract visitors and locals. – Promoting awareness of the history of the region and specific events throughout its development. – Preserving the psychological and historical value of the place and increasing cultural and environmental awareness. – Exploiting the surrounding environment in sustainable design and operation processes. – Preserving the region as a breathing area that combines environmental resources with social life
