Digital Archive Museum

The Digital Archive Museum in Alexandria is a contemporary cultural initiative that seeks to safeguard the city’s threatened architectural and cultural heritage due to rise in sea level for all the coastal cities, by merging advanced technology with community participation. Located in El-Max, the museum functions as a living archive that combines interactive exhibitions with real-time digital reconstructions. Drones scan historical sites both on land and underwater, including the sunken ruins of ancient Alexandria, and transmit the data to the museum, where it is carefully processed and fully digitally documented before being displayed on interactive walls and holographic projections. At the same time, community members contribute through a dedicated app, uploading photographs, stories, and memories that enrich the archive with both tangible and intangible layers of identity. Inside, visitors encounter a constantly evolving experience where exhibits are updated to reflect new surveys, research, and community input. The museum thus becomes both a memory repository and an interactive cultural platform, connecting past, present, and future.
