Project Description

The Amman Popular Project is a commercial and social project in the current Friday Market location, Ras Al-Ain. The project aims to solve the problems in the temporary and popular markets and give them the greatest possible opportunity to improve the concept of the street market and the ability to shed light on the residents of the Ras Al-Ain area and the deprived neighborhoods and look at their needs.

After the development review of Amman’s markets, the transition from street and random markets to regular markets, commercial complexes, and malls, there has become a gap in this transition.

Therefore, the Amman market combines permanent markets with temporary markets and provides services that are lacking in street and temporary markets, such as parking, storage, recreational services in the market, social services, parking lots, and other services.

The permanent market supports the people of the surrounding area throughout the entire week, in addition to promoting and providing services to the temporary market

The temporary market will operate during days of the week, from Thursday to Saturday, and the space will be used during the other days of the week for recreational, social, cultural and educational activities and events by using the flexible module in several activities.

The idea is to preserve the idea of the popular open market and the random spirit present in it, which has become lacking in permanent markets.

Solutions:

Redesigning public spaces

Provide a safe and orderly environment for users

Preserving the culture of the Friday market, the weekly economic event

Raising the level of the concept of popular markets and re-establishing its space in a more humane and functional manner

Promoting services in these markets (such as restaurants, parking lots, open spaces, bathrooms, storage and space utilization)

Providing management and oversight

Increasing the labor force in the region

Strengthening local cohesion

Preserving the commercial identity of the city of Amman due to the importance of the market location, which connects East Amman and West Amman

Exploiting the site’s land area during the weekdays and increasing its economic importance

The ability to apply the idea of tactical urbanization in the project at a low cost and to reconfigure public places and operate them functionally during the days of the week by using the module, both formally and functionally.
