Project Description
After recent events, it has become apparent that efficient sustainable healthcare design is necessary in the future. One of the deadliest diseases that a great many people suffer from is cardiovascular disease. It is the main cause of death due to disease worldwide and the numbers are simply getting worse and worse every year.
The solution to this was to build a heart hospital with both easy global and local access to treat patients of all ages and from all cultures. The hospital is in Egypt’s New Capital with a central location in the city overlooking the main green spine of the Medical Zone as well as being less than a 30-minute drive from the airport and near a medical pod station.
The hospital is a hub centered around healing through medicine and healing through design. It tackles the medical end by providing state of the art medical care while at the same time serving as point of coalescing where it is connected to the nearby medical functions. As for healing by architecture, it affords basic healing tactics such as offering open spaces where patients benefit from the positive effect of being exposed to the outdoors. Also, natural light is used as well to deliver a calming environment, openings are used in abundance to lessen stress and hence lower amount of pain medication required. Moreover, the color psychology is considered to provide the best environment for healing such as using soothing blues, calming greens, sterile whites and energizing reds in the physical therapy zones and finally, the building materials are harmonious with nature. It also considers design principles centered around treating heart disease like promoting physical exercise, encouraging a healthy diet, and reducing stress.
The project also boasts many sustainable features to combat rising prices such over 10 courtyards providing natural lighting and ventilation, green roofs to reduce heat gain, and solar panels to provide energy.
