Project Description
In the Hashemite region – the city of Zarqa, Jordan, which is known as the industrial city due to the large number of factories in it. It ranks first in Jordan in terms of the number of factories. The Jordanian oil refinery is considered one of the largest of these factories and the most harmful to the environment and human life for the residents of the region and the surrounding areas.
The oil refinery in the Hashemite district is a source of pollution due to the huge amounts of smoke resulting from the heating of crude oil. The suffocating atmosphere in the refinery area can be felt, which has become a source of residents’ complaints due to its negative repercussions on the environment and health.
This pollution also affected the agricultural sectors and livestock grazing among farmers, as nearly 70% of the region’s population works in agriculture and grazing. They own agricultural land on the banks of the Zarqa River, which has begun to decay and decrease, with an increase in organic waste and rotten vegetables due to a polluted environment, whether due to air pollution that causes acid rain or human behaviors that harm agriculture and lands.
As a result of the above, the project will be a community and agricultural research center, consisting of two main environments. The first is the protected environment, which will provide a clean environment, mitigate the effects of pollution, and benefit from the organic waste scattered in the area to form fertilizers and other materials that help the vegetation cover resist weather conditions and others. Which will be represented by vertical gardens of pollution-resistant trees that will be on the facade opposite the factories and will be the first line of defense from harmful gases and work to reduce their damage to be a safe environment for people inside and outside the project and represented by the residents of the city, while the second environment will be the protected environment that will be within the internal space. For the project, which consists of 1) a research center that includes a large group of scientists and experts who work to conduct research in special places for their research on soil, air and water, their level of pollution, and how to find means in various methods of soil reclamation so that they are able to produce more effectively and resist polluted environmental conditions through The use of organic materials to strengthen the soil or the use of beneficial insects on agricultural crops and their removal are methods that help improve the agricultural situation. The center will also contain training and education halls for expert students and others for the benefit of scientists and agricultural experts
