Project Description
Archive XII, is a social urban development project with a total area 18000SQM, the project mainly archives 12 architectural urban elements including (Heritage buildings, stairs, streets and new complementary buildings.
The project is divided into three main sections, the old municipality building (adaptive reuse building) and its surroundings including (municipality stairs and municipality street).
AlSharairi complex including House of AlSharairi (old heritage building) AlSharairi stairs and a new extension (AlSharairi Coffee and Madafet AlSharairi).
The last section is a new main project and the summery of the story of Al-Tal which is The Archiving Centre.
The municipality stairs is redesigned to have such a framing platforms that frames the different layers of the skyline, with taking advantage of the stairs spaces for selling crafts, plants and books, the walls are redesigned to reflect Arar poetry in a graffiti art, the steps are divided into circulation steps and seating steps. The old municipality building was in a bad condition and abandoned even though it has a rich cultural value, the exterior walls thickness was around 70CM, and 3.5M height, with a court inside that reflects the vernacular architectural language. The building is adapted and reused mainly as Point view, event spaces, and community garden (that reflects the old arrangement of the city). The ground floor is reused as a fixed exhibition that represent Darj Festival which took place in 2017 on the municipality stairs. the roof is reused as a point view with a steel frames that looks and frames a different layers of the skyline, and with a series of events, like sitting zones, and memories hanging grille space. The municipality street was changed into pedestrian street with a width of 10M, the street is redesigned to have a underground small shops with a 5M width for selling crafts, food and crops from community garden, with a green seating zones.
The new extensions to House of AlSharairi are Alharairi coffee that serves as a small coffee station for selling coffee with a small outdoor seating, and Madafet AlSharairi that works as an open space for seating, with a reflection of the culture. Both of them are added to complete the lack of services in House of Al Sharairi. Frames are added to the stairs, to frame the views and to work as a stop point in the stations.
The Archiving Centre, is the new project that aims to summarize and conclude al Tal in a sequence of exhibitions, There are a two main entrances to the archiving center from the framing gates, and there is an accessibility from the roof of Arar Cultural House.
The archiving center is divided into 3 sections, Sequence of exhibitions, interconnected street (serves as Public Bazar) and the archiving zone. The sequential exhibitions are an archival maps and city development exhibition, people exhibition that exhibit people whether they were icons in the city, or local citizens who want to share memories with people, and the last exhibition is a historical exhibition that shows a unique piece from Tal Irbid. The archiving zone main purpose was to exhibit a documentaries of the city in the video room. There are a roofs that used a view points over the city, and there is specific 360 view platform that frames the breakthrough of the church and mosque.
