Project Function: Cultural educational centre) New community)

Al-Umma Park is one of the most important historical parks in the region, and because its location is in the city centre. That is why Bab Al Sharqi is one of the most visited destinations in Baghdad and crowded in general. Previously, the park attracted people to it due to its historical and cultural importance. .. The goal is to establish a new cultural and educational community underground and link the outside (the garden) with the inside (the project). . We often see a lack of interest or use of gardens only as external landscapes. This project will provide a new model for neglected green spaces. Activating it again and changing the concept of designing public parks more than as a recreational picnic areas for the residents. The main idea of the project: – The roof of the garden + the underground layers and the creation of open space along with the garden.. Achieving the concept of (social sustainability) and benefiting from the climatic garden surface to serve the project. This project seeks to maintain a balance between traditional cultural learning and contemporary new learning.

  • The project is entered from the entry points shown in the attached pictures above. The area of the site (the garden)..18,603 m²
The project consists of 3 levels in addition to the entry-level of the project .. Designing a renewed urban centre in the city centre with a new vision
  • Materials: Local bricks were used in the construction of the spaces for their many advantages and for being suitable for the site’s fabric and environment. Concrete was also used in the loads.
  • Use climbing plants to blend nature and architecture underground

– Three different and complementary spaces will coexist in this project.

  • 1- A space for concentration, quiet learning and meditation. We call this area the silent space.
  • 2- A space where it is possible to study and learn with others. We call this space a collaborative workspace.
  • 3- A space for communication, participation and displaying talents for people. A new cultural community. We call this space (the Plaza). The project also hosts cultural events, conferences and exhibitions.

(Designing a new underground cultural and educational community) and exploiting the abandoned spaces. The project is located in the centre of the city. The idea of (the design and functionality of the project) came as a result of design decisions for the site and solutions to most problems, making the garden (a contemporary cultural nucleus) and after studying the site and the condition of the people well and the cultural and educational poverty of the area and the people’s need for large squares for gathering due to the congestion of the site. I wanted to create a green, cultural plaza for a large gathering in the middle of crowding, which is considered a (small cultural central park). And he made the garden (lung to the site) its components as a green yard, a water channel, and entry points for the project. The underground project provides places for youth and people of all ages and cultures o gather to display their talents and develop and educate them. Therefore, there is no need for people to crowd the streets surrounding the site and alleviate the problem of overcrowding.
