Project Description

Located in Ras Al-Hela, eastern Libya, a site where lush mountains, ancient caves, and the Mediterranean coast converge. The centre serves as a gateway to the region’s historical, natural, and cultural heritage. The architectural concept is inspired by the Acropolis, expressed through a series of elevated platforms connected by a ramp that leads visitors to a panoramic observation deck, the symbolic peak of the journey. This ascending path offers both literal and metaphorical elevation, guiding visitors through discovery and reflection. The project combines five key components: recreational, cultural, accommodation, administrative, and service areas. In the accommodation zone, a pool overlooks the Mediterranean, providing a tranquil space that enhances the visitor experience and strengthens the site’s connection to its coastal setting. Cultural exhibitions, local artisan workshops, and shops selling traditional products are integrated throughout the site. The centre also supports seasonal festivals, outdoor markets, and apple-picking activities, strengthening ties between visitors and the local community. Built with locally sourced limestone, the design embraces sustainability, echoing the region’s vernacular architecture while promoting eco-tourism. Beyond its function as a visitor facility, the centre plays a vital role in storytelling, preservation, and economic support. It encourages exploration of the broader Green Mountain region and celebrates its environmental and historical significance.
